Senja 22-29.07.2021

Senja 22-29.07.2021

Senja Island. Midnight Photo Tour

Senja island is called "Norway in miniature" because in its harbors one can find all different landscapes of Norway, discovering the best possible variety of choices when it comes to photography. You can stroll around the more residential eastern coast in your quest to capture typical fishing houses, in a flatter and more rural area, while still having a stunning mountain background.
When you come to the outer side of Senja you will see some of Norway’s most spectacular fjords. Razor sharp mountains plunging into the sea that is offering the most varied palette of colours and shades throughout the year. When wandering through these imposing formations you will be rather surprised to find white-sand beaches with turquoise water in the middle of the mountains and the snow! Senja simply has it all, and much more: sea-washed granit shores, breathtaking waterfalls, hundreds of small islands and inlets... During this Senja Photo Tour we will visit the most amazing locations of Senja, including secret forests, lakes and beautiful waterfalls. We will hike up the mountains with views over the surrounding fjords and admire the spectacular harsh peaks.
The journey will be organized the most comfortable way ever possible. We will stay at a private campsite in small wooden cabins with kitchens. You will always have hot water, a comfortable and heated shower, a toilet and a wi-fi. There won't be any need to carry camping gear up the track.

All hikes are quite comfortable, along a well-marked and well-prepared path.
Each day we will walk about 4-8 km, with an elevation gain of 450-830 m. Our guides will have a very slow pace, and we will be able to take photos on the way to our locations.
Weather conditions may be very unstable. North of Norway is famous for its ever-changing weather. So, please, prepare for the worst conditions possible as temperatures may drop to +5°- +10°C at night. Rain is possible, so good shoes, waterproof pants and a jacket are essential. A down jacket, gloves, a hat and a rain coat are essential as well.

In order to save your time, we recommend to arrange the same flight to Evenes Airport and back for all participants. July, 22, 2021, Oslo-Gardermoen at 13:20 - Harstad-Narvik (EVE) at 15:00.
Back flight: July, 29, Harstad-Narvik (EVE) at 16:40 - Oslo-Gardermoen at 18:25.

Day 1. Pick up time: not later than 3 pm at Evenes Airport (or any nearby accommodation). It’s time to begin our journey to the cabins, to leave our luggage and set off towards our first location. The walk will lead us to breathtaking viewpoints of Hesten. Sunset and sunrise shooting. Returning back to our cabins at 5 am. The distance is about 3.700 m. Elevation gain is about 520 m.
Day 2. Husfjellet will be our target today. Husfjellet is probably Senja’s most rewarding hike. The hike is moderate, with a gradual uphill climb, but the views are simply stunning. Sunset and sunrise shooting. Returning back to our cabins at 4 am. Distance is about 7.600 m. Elevation gain is 630m. (B/L)
Day 3. After two difficult days we deserve an easy route. Tungeneset on Senja brings viewpoints and picnic areas up to the next level, with its Nordic design structure nestled between Steinfjord and Ersfjord. From this walkway constructed with Siberian larch wood, you will enjoy views of the Norwegian Sea in the west, and the intense Okshornan mountain range, also known as Devil’s Jaw, in the north.
The wooden walkway ends with a few concrete steps near the sea and boulders. This area along the sea makes a wonderful place for an afternoon picnic or even a place to watch the sunset or Aurora Borealis. Whatever your reason is for visiting, make sure you bring your camera to capture the idyllic scenery. We will spend an evening here and return back to our cabins right after sunset. Time to rest.(B/L)
Day 4. Quite a difficult route awaits us today. Grytetippen is an incredible place to check out the evening and midnight sun.
The hike isn’t really dangerous before you reach the top, but be aware of the steep cliffs on the ridge line at the top. It is quite a difficult climb during the entire hike, so it is recommended to be in decent physical shape to climb Grytetippen. We will catch sunset here and will start to go down right after it. Distance is about 6.800 m. Elevation gain is 830 m. (B/L)
Day 5. The track to Barden is a moderate hike, very popular with locals. It’s one of the most accessible peaks on the northern end of Senja. The peak sits at 659 meters above sea level.
At the top there are views of the two nearby fjords, Mefjord and Øyfjord, as well as Segla, Breidtinden and many other surrounding mountains. The mountain rises up vertically from the ocean and the large, flat peak is a great place to relax and enjoy the views. It is also good for camping. The first part of the hike can be quite wet, so waterproof footwear is recommended. Distance is about 6.700 m. Elevation gain is 590 m. (B/L)
Day 6. Sukkertoppen is a great hike on Senja. From the top there are views of Hamn resort and the surrounding coastline. In the summertime, a hike up to Sukkertoppen is a fantastic route to take in the midnight sun. Distance is about 4.100 m. Elevation gain is 450 m. (B/L)
Day 7. We'll have this spare day for ourselves. The way we spend it and the route we choose will depend on the group and on the weather on the previous days. (B/L)
Day 8. Our incredible adventure is over. We will drop off everyone at Evenes Airport (or any nearby accommodation). (B)
