Svalbard. 3-15.05.2021

Join a 13-day Svalbard Wildlife Tour On An Expedition Arctic Yacht With 6 Guests.

The Arctic, Spitsbergen — how tempting, with an attractive crystal ring, sound these words! What lies behind them?

Heroic discoveries of the past and pioneers, brave captains and travellers... These are glaciers and icebergs that live by their unknown laws. This is the boundless space of the Arctic ocean and high mountain peaks rising from the depths. Here you can feel alone with nature, with harsh and beautiful elements.

What's it like — the North? It's alive, just like people! One day it's bursting out with a wide range of colours, the other it's dull and gloomy like an autumn day, or it's melancholically reserved and detached.
So, it's just like us... It can be suffering strong storms and snowstorms, or all of a sudden it can grant you a stingy smile of a short northern summer...

Also, it's tremendously immense, with its endless sky filled with gold and lead, with its deep blue sea when the sounder on the ship is showing dashes instead of a three-digit number... And one feels ill at ease... You aren't really scared, no! But at that moment you start realizing the actual size of it and the grandeur, and the idea that a man is King on Earth sound nonsense.

The Arctic is also the virgin animal world: bird rookeries and colonies of walruses, whales and seals families, and of course, one of the brightest and the strongest predators on the planet, the owner of the Arctic — the polar bear. Polar bear hunt has been banned in Spitsbergen for many years. Being curious by nature, the bear is not afraid of people, and moreover, it also impressively poses for photographers, staring at the approaching ships.

The time of the expedition has been chosen on purpose! At this time of year the regime light lasts almost around the clock. This will give us the opportunity of shooting animals and the Arctic landscapes in perfect lighting.

Polar bears can be found near Longyear. There is a lot of ice in the water area, and seals and walruses lie right on the ice floes. We will be travelling on a small expedition yacht which will let us get close to our "models".

The journey will start with a meeting at the hotel in Longyear where you will have to get on your own.

You can see the approximate route on the map diagram. The route will not be mandatory or final. The tour program can be changed according to the ice conditions and the weather.

In order to avoid misunderstanding and disconnection, you will have to arrive in Longyear (LYR) on May, 3 in the afternoon, from Tromso (TOS).

The ice-class yacht allows us to travel with a minimum group size of only 6 people. The conditions on the boat are quite convenient: small but cozy cabins, a spacious lounge, and a kitchen where the cook will prepare delicious breakfast, lunch and dinner for us. At the same time, you should not expect the space and comfort of a hotel room on the boat. A small yacht and a company of friends is a reasonable compromise that will let us consider all needs of the participants and get the best photo results.

Itinerary

Day 1.  Participants arrive in Longyear. For all participants, we have booked single rooms at Mary-Ann's Polarrigg hotel, located at 9171, Longyearbyen. You will have to travel from the airport to the hotel on your own.
Take the shuttle bus (including night arrival). The price is 75 nok. Cash or credit card.
The group meets at the hotel for dinner to discuss the plans for the next days.(//)

Day 2.  After breakfast which is included in the price we'll leave for the port and get on board our Arctic expedition yacht.
Our Arctic adventure is beginning! (B/L/D)

Day 2-10.  We are in the Arctic — part of the world where everything depends on the changeable weather, on the waves height, the direction and strength of the wind. Our exact route will depend on many weather factors, but the main one will be the state and position of the ice sheet along the western part of the archipelago.
Getting information from other ships and captains, we will plan our route depending on the weather, the ice conditions and the location of animals that might be interesting for us.(B/L/D)

Day 11.  Today we are moving towards Longyear.
We can have the last stop (if the group members wish so) at the property of Arctic Coal Company, in the town of Barentsburg.(B/L/D)

Day 12.  This is the end of our tour and the participants can return home. If your departure is scheduled for the next day, you can stay on board the ship until 9 am tomorrow.
For those who have never been to Longyear and want to see the northernmost capital of the world, we recommend staying for one more day. You will need to book a hotel room yourself. (B/L/D)

Day 13. We should leave our yacht until 9 am today. Departure for home. (B//)
