Senja island is called Norway in miniature because it harbors all the different landscapes of Norway, giving the best possible variety of choices when it comes to photography. You can roam the more residential eastern coast in your quest to capture typical fishing houses in a flatter and more rural area while still having a stunning mountain backdrop.
When you come to the ‘outer’ side of Senja you are greeted by some of Norway’s most spectacular fjords. Razor sharp mountains plunging into the sea that’s offering the most varied palette of lights and colors throughout the year! When browsing through these imposing formations you will be rather surprised to find white-sanded beaches with turquoise waters in the middle of the mountains and the snow! Senja simply has it all, and much more like washed-granit shores, stunning waterfalls, hundreds of small islands and inlets…During this Senja Photo Tour we will visit the most amazing locations of Senja, including secret forests, lakes and beautiful waterfalls. We will hike up mountains with views over the surrounding fjords and admire the spectacular rugged peaks.
The journey will be organized in the maximum comfortable way possible. We will stay in our private camping with small wooden cabins with kitchen. You will always have hot water, comfortable and heated shower, toilet and wi-fi. There is no need to carry camping gear up the trail.
Our Short teaser about the island of Senja, you can see here.
The hikes are quite comfortable by the well marked prepared trail.
Each day we will have a trail 4-8km (round way) with ascend 450-830m. Our guides will have a very slow pace, and we can make travel shots on the way to our locations.
Weather conditions may be very unstable. North of Norway is famous for its ever-changing weather. So please prepare for the worst conditions possible as temperature drop to 5-10 in the night. Rain is possible, so good shoes, waterproof pants and jacket are essential. Down jacket, gloves, hat and rain coat are essential as well.

Day 1. Pick up time is no later than 3 pm at Evenes Airport (or any nearby accommodation). It’s time to begin our drive towards our cabins, leave our luggage and start to our first location. Our trail leads to breathtaking viewpoints of Hesten. Sunset and sunrise shooting. Returning back to our cabins at 5am. Distance 3.700m round way. Elevation gain 520m.
Day 2. Husfjellet is our aim today. Husfjellet is possibly Senja’s most rewarding hike. The hike is moderate, with a gradual uphill climb, but the views are simply stunning. Sunset and sunrise shooting. Returning back to our cabins at 4am. Distance 7.600m round way. Elevation gain 630m. (B)
Day 3. After two difficult days we deserve an easy route. Tungeneset on Senja brings viewpoints and picnic areas to the next level, with its Nordic design structure nestled between the Steinfjord and the Ersfjord. From this walkway constructed with Siberian larch wood, you will enjoy views of the Norwegian Sea in the west, and the intense Okshornan mountain range, also known as Devil’s Jaw, in the north.(B)
The wooden walkway ends with a few concrete steps near the sea and boulders. This area along the sea makes a wonderful place for an afternoon picnic or even a place to watch the sunset or northern lights. Whatever your reason is for visiting, make sure you bring your camera to capture the idyllic scenery. We will spend an evening here and will return back to our cabins right after sunset. Time to rest.(B)
Day 4. Quite difficult rout awaits us today. Grytetippen is an incredible place to check out the evening and midnight sun.
The the hike isn’t particularly dangerous before you reach the top, but be aware of the steep cliffs on the along ridge line at the top. It is quite a steep climb along the entire hike so it is recommended to be in decent physical shape to climb Grytetippen. We will catch sunset here and will start to go down right after it. Distaance 6.800m round way. Elevation gain 830m. (B)
Day 5. The trek to Barden is a moderate hike very popular with locals. It’s one of the most accessible peaks on the northern end of Senja. The peak sits at 659 meters above sea level.
From the top there are views of two nearby fjords, Mefjord and Øyfjord, as well as Segla, Breidtinden and many other surrounding mountains. The mountain rises up vertically from the ocean and the large, flat peak is a great place to relax and enjoy the views. It is also suited for camping. The first part of the hike can be quite wet so waterproof footwear is recommended. Distaance 6.700m round way. Elevation gain 590m. (B)
Day 6. Sukkertoppen is a great hike on Senja. From the top there are views of Hamn resort and the surrounding coastline. In the summertime, a hike up to Sukkertoppen is a fantastic way to take in the midnight sun. Distaance 4.100m round way. Elevation gain 450m. (B)
Day 7. We have this spare day for us. How we spend it and what we rout will be depends on the group and the weather in previous days.(B)
Day 8. Our incredible adventure is over. We will drop off everyone at the Evenes Airport (or any nearby accommodation).(B)
